If you have kids or are simply just a movie fanatic, Inside Out 2 is a must watch. There are so many learning lessons that everybody would benefit from by watching this movie. The way Inside Out 2 depicts Riley’s feelings on the inside, and how that transfers to the outside world is a good representation of what a lot of people are going through in their day-to-day life.
Box Office
Inside out 2 is one of the few great sequels that Disney got right. They are notorious for having a great first movie, and the sequel being sub par at best. Luckily for all of us, this was a massive hit among children, and anyone else who is a Disney lover; you can tell that just from the box office numbers. They crossed over the 1 billion mark in just two weeks! It is the fasted animated movie to reach 1 billion dollars in box office history. That is an incredible feat knowing that it is competing with high stature movies like Frozen, Frozen 2, and the Despicable Me movies.
New Characters
There are four new characters in the sequel to Inside Out. There is Envy, she is the petite teal character. Anything she sees as beautiful or worth having in areas she feels she is lacking in, she gives Riley the feeling of envy. Next, there is embarrassment. He is the bigger pink character; he is very shy and doesn’t do a lot of talking throughout the film due to his nervousness. Then there is Ennui. Ennui is the French word for Boredom, so this character has a lazy, apathetic demeanor. Lastly, there is Anxiety. She was one of the stars of the show. She is a control freak who is endlessly nervous.
Meet the Director
The director for Inside Out 2 is Kelsey Mann. This was his very first movie he has ever directed. He was very ecstatic about the opportunity to direct this movie even though it may have stirred up some emotions for him. Mann said, “At the end of the first film, Joy asked the audience a question. She says, ‘after all Riley is twelve now, what could happen’? Well I wanted to answer that question.” He was the perfect fit for this film, and it truly showed.
Picture
The special effects and colors were out of this world in this movie. Editor Maurissa Hortwiz and cinematographer Adam Habib did incredible work. The way they balanced the social situations and emotions throughout the film was outstanding. The picture alone was spectacular. All of the colors and settings were so vibrant, making it very easy to stay engaged as an adult but especially a kid.
Conclusion
This movie is objectively good, and you can see that reflected in its box office numbers I listed above. It was a tall task to try and match the level of excellence that Inside Out had, but I believe Kelsey Mann and his team did that and maybe more. Inside Out 2 is the right side in.
