On Wednesday, January 29th, the Owens Express Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams played a double header at the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) for Pack the SHAC, an event that invited students, faculty and staff to express school spirit. The evening’s opponent was Lorain County Community College (LCCC).
Pack the SHAC saw many students, faculty and staff attend, with the gymnasium being a high energy environment.
During the event, the head coach of the Women’s team, Stephen Perry, said,“This team has a really good post player, which we really haven’t seen a lot this year, so she poses a problem. But, we’ve settled in and we’re figuring out how to defend her.”
Perry had faith in his players, but also recognized issues. He mentioned the crowd that showed up to support his team.
“We love to see these people.”
He also spoke about last week’s impressive crowd during the Owens Express Hall of Fame weekend.
During Pack the SHAC the Owens Express Women’s Basketball team defeated LCCC 82-77. That win kept the intensity up leading into the Men’s game.
At halftime, the Owens faculty and staff provided players, spectators and staff with free food and refreshments.
The Owens Express Men’s game began with an explosive start; the Owens players were leading the half with intense plays.
Sophomore player #4, De’Mar Moore, a point guard for the Express, said, “We got a nice little crowd here today compared to other games; it’s fun. We get to show our fans what we’re capable of.”
The Owens fans that showed up for Pack the SHAC motivated the Express team to play at their A-game, being 10 points up at the half.
Moore added, “I feel like right now we could play a lot better…our intensity level isn’t all the way there, we’re planning on coming out at the second half and picking it up.”
And picked it up they did, finishing the game 106-99, holding the lead for the entire game. Following the Owens Express Women’s Basketball team, the Owens Express Men’s team finished the night with a win.
Next up, Owens Express will be playing at Terra State in Fremont this coming Wednesday.
