On Friday, April 4 at noon in the Lounge-Area in the 1st floor in HH, The BIG Read “The Faces Of” Art Exhibit Reception opens.
This year’s BIG Read explores Deaf culture, history of Deaf culture and struggle for rights, Deaf community, American Sign Language and other communication of deaf or hard of hearing individuals, challenges deaf and hard of hearing individuals face in a world built on being able to hear, the privilege of hearing, and ableism.
“Deaf history,” as noted by the Communication Service for the Deaf, “is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Despite centuries of discrimination and marginalization, Deaf people have persevered and created a culture that is vibrant, unique, and enduring. By celebrating Deaf history and culture, we can honor the contributions of Deaf people and promote a more inclusive and compassionate world for all.”
We will honor and celebrate the Deaf Culture by sharing the stories of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals in this powerful art exhibit opening this Friday, April 4 at noon.
