On February 18th, Owens Community College hosted PAWS – Pet Away Worry and Stress from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at College Hall 153.
This event brought many furry friends–cats and dogs–to Owens, which invaded College Hall and terrorized campus with their cuteness. Attendees could come and pet and play with the animals for the duration of the event.
PAWS is spearheaded by Krista Kiessling, Director of Campus and Community Connections; Kelly Garza, a licensed social worker in the area; and the Toledo Animal Rescue.
This year marked the third time PAWS has been on campus, with the goal of alleviating stress around campus due to midterms. The event also hopes to ease some students of other stressors they bring with them onto campus.

Some of the cats and kittens that were present at the event were available for adoption, while the dogs were ones that Garza had brought for the event. She said that further adoption opportunities would be available later in the semester.

“Most of these furry animals have already been adopted!” said Kiessling. “But we plan on having another PAWS event around finals in April. That one will be strictly kitties though, as it is kitty season!”
PAWS will back around finals in April; check the Owens Events Calendar soon for the date.
