Owens Community College has closed campus four times already this semester–all due to inclement weather. We are currently on week five–this is almost a day a week! This might be a record.
Due to the inclement weather and Owens closing, class is not the only thing impacted by the closings–events are too.
With four closings already, four events have been cancelled or rescheduled. The affected events are “Winter Welcome,” “Superbowl LIX Preview Part,” “‘Inside Out 2’ – Film Discussion,” and “I Love Owens!”
The host of the “‘Inside Out 2’ – Film Discussion,” Vickie Heck, stated, “My event was run by Jen Hazel and Jane Berger and a new day is being picked in March to continue with the Inside Out 2 movie/discussion.”
Pillows from the “I Love Owens” will be available at the Wellness Wednesday on March 5.
“I am for the college closing as I drive 70 miles one-way to reach my office on [the] Owens Toledo Campus,” noted Heck. “Although in the minority, many times when I leave Seneca county, we are in a Level 3 or Level 2 alert. I also cover the Findlay campus and am very appreciative when they close or close early.”
Living near Owens campuses, might make it easy for some to commute in inclement weather; however, many staff and students come lengthly distances. Closing protects everyone on the roads.
As weather gets warmer, closings or delays hopefully will be less.
