The Owens Community College women’s soccer team, ranked No. 14, took on Cincinnati State in a rivalry home game on Sunday.

Each team knew the game was a big one, considering the rivalry aspect, but both coaches praised the players and encouraged them to have a fun, yet work hard.

Owens started out struggling to hold off the offensive Cincinnati players. But by the end of the first half, Owens got a handle on Cincinnati and improved their game.

With 14:04 left in the first half, Owens midfielder Shelby Antonacci booted the ball to Owens forward Jordyn Wright, who scored the only goal of the game.

In the second half, Owens seemed to dominate ball possession, giving them numerous scoring chances. Owens also kept the quick passes to a minimum, and kept Cincinnati at short distances that plagued them in the first half.

With a charging Cincinnati State at the final 10 minutes, Owens held on for a 1-0 shutout, making it goalkeeper Chelsie Randolph’s second shutout of the season.
